Cindy Williams, who became well-known for playing Shirley in the wildly successful “Laverne & Shirley,” has passed away at the age of 75.

On Monday, January 30, her family issued a statement announcing her passing.

The statement reads:

“The passing of our kind, hilarious mother, Cindy Williams, has brought us insurmountable sadness that could never truly be expressed.

“Knowing and loving her has been our joy and privilege. She was one of a kind, beautiful, generous and possessed a brilliant sense of humor and a glittering spirit that everyone loved.”

Williams played alongside Penny Marshall on the popular sitcom for its 8 seasons from 1976 to 1983. “Laverne & Shirley” once became the most-watched sitcom in The United States and netted 6 Golden Globes nominations and one Emmy nomination.

When she became pregnant during the eighth season of “Laverne & Shirley,” Williams departed the show. But during her career, she has worked on Broadway, made cameos on shows like “8 Simple Rules,” and even reconnected with Penny Marshall on a 2013 episode of “Sam & Cat.”

Williams has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a TV Land award for Fan Favorite, and the L.A. Comedy Film Festival’s Best Actress prize for the independent film Stealing Roses.

Additionally, Cindy received a BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nomination for her work in American Graffiti as best supporting actress. Shirley, I Jest! : A Storied Life, Cindy’s book, has received a lot of positive reviews.
