Okay, mandatory electronic filing in Florida helps. I can file a pleading in any of Florida’s 67 counties in about 5 minutes. But, in BigLaw, it is way too easy to rely on others to do the grunt work of mailing and filing. I have a lazy streak, and, in my earlier lawyer life, I hired clerks and secretaries and associate lawyers. It is a mistake to assume that they will always be dependable and accurate. The old saying is true. If you want something done right, do it yourself. In solo practice, you have to do it yourself. There isn’t anyone around to give the tasks to. Even if you aren’t a solo, try doing more stuff yourself. There are many benefits, and you know it will be done right.
