Some social media challenges are fun. Some are dangerous. And others can possibly get you a prison sentence. A current TikTok trend involves using a USB cable to steal certain Hyundai and Kia cars.

How does the Hyundai Kia trend work?

For this “trend,” people are breaking part of the starter on particular Hyundai and Kia models and then using USB cables to turn the ignition.

How illegal is this trend?

In Pennsylvania, stealing a car is considered to be a third-degree felony and can carry up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.
