‘Top Gun Maverick’ Leads Box Office Over Labor Day Weekend

“Top Gun: Maverick” topped the Labor Day weekend box office. The sequel to 1986’s hit starring Tom Cruise grossed $7.9 million over the four-day weekend, adding to its 15-week total of more than $701.2 million domestically.

Sony’s “Bullet Train” came in second with $7.34 million in its fifth week, and a re-release of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was in third, taking in $6.55 million at North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Monday.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were: “DC League of Super Pets” ($6.37 million), “The Invitation” ($6 million), “Beast” ($4.94 million), “Minions: The Rise of Gru” ($4.51 million), a re-release of the classic “Jaws” ($3.32 million), “Thor: Love and Thunder” ($3.16 million), and “Where the Crawdads Sing” ($2.73 million).

This weekend’s overall four-day box office total was estimated at $68 million. The year-to-date total is up to $5.4 billion — an increase of 151% over 2021’s figure, according to Comscore.
