The Looming War Over Taiwan, Escalation, and What Businesses Need to Know: The Webinar is THIS Wednesday

Since Chiang Kai-shek and the Kuomintang fled to Taiwan after China’s 1949 revolution, Beijing has claimed Taiwan as part of China. Taiwan is obviously a key cog in the global supply chain and it absolutely critical for semiconductor manufacturing.

Chinese military drills following Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s early August trip to Taiwan have alarmed governments and businesses worried about a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. Just last week China vowed “countermeasures” in response to the United States agreeing to sell defensive weapons to Taiwan. Most see relations between China and Taiwan continuing to worsen, and with that will undoubtedly come a worsening of relations between China and the West. When you add in the United Nations report finding that China engaged in crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and things look even worse. Though last week was an exceptionally bad week for companies that do business with Taiwan or China, but pretty much every week something happens to increase the business risk for those companies.

What impact would a China war against Taiwan have on companies that do business in or near these two countries? What about companies whose supply chains directly or indirectly depend on these two countries and/or their neighbors? What can and should your business be doing now to reduce its risks from a conflict that almost assuredly have considerably more impact on international trade than Russia’s invasion of Ukraine? China’s increasingly bellicose views on Taiwan have already impacted global supply chains, but what happens if and when China attacks Taiwan?
