Monsoon moisture was predicted to return to San Diego County Sunday and may remain in place for much of the week ahead, with daily chances for showers and thunderstorms in the mountains and the desert slopes each afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Marine layer clouds were expected to remain in place Sunday over the coast and valleys, with coverage spreading about 25-30 miles inland.

High temperatures along the coast Sunday are predicted to reach 76 degrees, 77 to 82 in the western valleys, and 87 to 92 near the foothills, 86 to 93 in the mountains and 102 to 107 in the deserts, according to the weather agency.

Temperatures may run slightly below normal this week given the increased moisture in place, but it could feel muggier in the monsoon pattern.

No hazardous marine weather was expected through Thursday.
