The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reminded motorists to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this Labor Day weekend.
Deputies will cruise local streets as the department increases patrols across the county Friday through the Monday Labor Day holiday.
During Labor Day weekend last year, deputies arrested 111 people countywide on suspicion of DUI.
So far in 2022, 4,450 people have been arrested across the county after being suspected of impaired driving.
The department also urged motorists to realize that driving under the influence isn’t confined to alcohol. It also means intoxication due to the use of prescription drugs or marijuana.
Officials also urged those who do drink to have a designated driver, use a ride-sharing app or arrange for a taxi.
The California Highway Patrol also will increase patrols on major state roadways this weekend.
