Two people were being bars Tuesday in connection with the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man in the Logan Heights area.

The victim, identified as Devin Payton of Chula Vista, was found suffering from a gunshot wound around 2:50 a.m. Monday in the 2200 block of Imperial Avenue, according to the San Diego Police Department.

Payton was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 3:30 a.m., police said.

According to SDPD, 27-year-old Torrodney Prevot of San Diego was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. Anthony Deshaun Word, a 22-year-old Houston resident, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the crime.

Prevot was being held without bail in the San Diego Central Jail, according to the county Sheriff’s Department website. Word was being held at the same facility on $20,000 bail.

According to police, Payton and Prevot had a verbal altercation in a parking lot on Imperial Avenue. During that altercation, Prevot allegedly walked away and retrieved a handgun from his vehicle, police said.

The argument “escalated to a point where the suspect took out a handgun and shot the victim at least one time, fatally striking him in the chest,” according to police.

Police said both suspects fled the scene in the vehicle, but detectives found them at a residence in the 1800 block of State Street near the Harborview neighborhood.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident, police said.
