Republican Rep. Darrell Issa is one of four incumbent members of Congress from California on the November ballot who could be considered “election deniers,” according a report by the political website FiveThirtyEight.com.

Issa, who represents the 50th District in east San Diego County and Temecula, is joined by Rep. Doug LaMalfa in the 1st District, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in the 23rd District and Rep. Ken Calvert in the 42nd District.

FiveThirtyEight classified a candidate as a denier if they “clearly stated that the election was stolen from Trump” or took action to overturn the results, such as voting not to certify results.

On Jan. 6, 2021, during the insurrection at the Capitol, Issa joined over 100 Republicans in voting against certifying the presidential results from Arizona and Pennsylvania, where Biden won narrowly.

“My colleagues and I spoke out in support of ballot integrity and the sacred right to vote,” said Issa after his votes. “The process is now complete and a peaceful and orderly transition of power will occur, as it should.”

Issa condemned the violence that day, and later congratulated Biden.
