Kirk Cousins will likely be the Minnesota Vikings QB1 for a sixth consecutive season in 2023. And if he does just that, he’ll join Fran Tarkenton and Daunte Culpepper as the only signal-callers in Vikings history to start six Week 1 games in a row.

But one popular NFL analyst and longtime Vikings fan is flat-out fed up with the Cousins experiment in Minnesota. He’s Mike Florio, the boss at ProFootballTalk.com.

Popular NFL Analyst Got Really Mad about Kirk Cousins

Florio joined KFAN’s Paul Allen this week on The Paul Allen Show to examine the Vikings disappointing loss to the New York Giants two weeks ago, and he didn’t hold back.

“Joe Burrow is the anti-Kirk Cousins. Joe Burrow is the guy who, like Kirk, will have a great season. But when the lights get bright, you’ve got one game, and your whole season is riding on it — do you crumble, or do you rise? Joe Burrow rises, Kirk crumbles,” Florio argued when asked about Cousins’ future with the Vikings.

Florio defiantly compared Burrow and Cousins and concluded, “Kirk doesn’t have it. You can take your rose-colored glasses and shove them up your butt. Kirk doesn’t have it.”

Is Absolutely Humongous

The Vikings encountered a 4th and 8 play against the Giants in the 4th Quarter of the Wildcard showdown with the game on the line. Under duress from the incoming New York pass rush, Cousins found tight end T.J. Hockenson far short of a first down, irritating some fans to high heavens.

Florio was one of those and took out his frustration with Cousins’ continued employment with the Vikings on KFAN. Allen, the show host, even apologized on Twitter, although it is unclear if that was part of the bit, “On behalf of 92Noon Love Covenant Enterprises we wholeheartedly apologize for the verbal macabre and subterfuge delivered by ProFootballTalk to commence the presentation. The views in no way reflect the hearts and/or opinions of the host or [the producer].”

Minnesota’s front office and coaching staff will have a couple of months to ponder Cousins’ future, but any exclusion of the 34-year-old from the team’s 2023 plans would be dicey. Cousins was afforded a no-trade clause in his extension last year, meaning he’d have to sign off any trade.

The Vikings have not expressed any outward desire to trade Cousins as of late January.

If Cousins returns in 2023 — he probably will — he’ll experience offensive coordinator continuity for the first time in seven years.

Kirk Cousins’ Offensive Coordinator,
by Year,
Since 2016:

2016 = Sean McVay
2017 = Matt Cavanaugh
2018 = Brian DeFilippo
2019 = Kevin Stefanski
2020 = Gary Kubiak
2021 = Klint Kubiak
2022 = Wes Phillips
2023 = Wes Phillips (barring something wacky)

Cousins will turn 35 this summer.
