Patrick Peterson wants the Vikings to get nasty.

And the best way to do that, according to Peterson, is the free-agent addition of veteran DT Ndamukong Suh.

Suh, who indeed has a nasty reputation, especially as a younger man, last played for the Tampa Bay Buccanneers. He won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay with Tom Brady and Co. but is curiously unsigned this offseason.

Asked on the All Things Covered podcast about signing Suh, Peterson said, “Bring him along. That would make us that much better. That would make us that much nastier.”

Peterson continued by stating a championship would be more attainable with Suh in Minnesota, “If you’re nasty up front, you’re giving yourself a shot. I’m in for Suh, all day.”

The Suh-Vikings chatter heated up in June when Tyler Dragon from USA Today tweeted about ongoing discussions between the camps.

Almost two months into the Suh-to-Minnesota flirtation, Suh’s representation and the Vikings seem stuck on the deal’s financial terms. According to Darren Wolfson from KSTP in Minneapolis, the Vikings are still interested in Suh, but money is the complication.

Wolfson said on SKOR North’s YouTube show at the beginning of August, “They would happily take him today. They’d love to have him on the practice field tomorrow but at a very specific price point. What Suh is looking for and what the Vikings are looking to do, my understanding is the two sides aren’t remotely close.”

Suh, 35, has never missed a game due to injury in 12 seasons as a pro. He’s the NFL’s Iron Man but encountered a down season in 2021, tallying a 49.4 grade from Pro Football Focus. Since entering the league in 2010, Suh has played for the Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, and Buccaneers.

A five-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro, Suh is likely headed for Hall of Fame induction when he retires despite a rebellious reputation at times. Due to some on-the-field antics, Suh was labeled “dirty” as a younger man. So when Peterson calls for nastiness in the Vikings defensive trenches, Suh has that trait already built in his portfolio.

Suh has registered 70.5 sacks in his career.

If the Vikings honor Peterson’s wish, the defensive line fivesome would be stuffed with prominent names:

  • EDGE: Danielle Hunter
  • DE: Harrison Phillips
  • NT: Dalvin Tomlinson
  • DT: Ndamukong Suh
  • EDGE: Za’Darius Smith

The Vikings have around $8.7 million in cap space as of August 15th. Suh likely wants all of it.
