OBJ to Dallas Might Not Happen

Throughout the regular season, we’ve seen Odell Beckham Jr. pop up around NFL stadiums on an almost weekly basis. It’s akin to a top high school prospect making college visits across the country. The star wide receiver has been a free agent throughout the year following his ACL tear that he suffered during February’s Super Bowl.

In recent weeks, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Beckham would end up with the Dallas Cowboys. He officially made a visit this week, but now in the aftermath, it appears that OBJ to Dallas may not happen after all

As it turns out, the Cowboys may have some lingering concerns about Beckham’s injury. In an ideal world, the wide receiver would be able to begin practicing with whoever signs him and join the offense immediately.

However, after the visit it appears that concerns began to pop up regarding his ability to run routes. Reportedly, there was no official offer made to the wide receiver, and optimism is lower that a deal will come to fruition than it was pre-visit.

Obviously, adding a Super Bowl champion at wide receiver would be a major addition to a Dallas Cowboys offense that is already one of the most prolific in the league. They are coming off a performance this week where they scored 54 points on the Colts.

It’s only a major addition if OBJ actually can perform at full strength, though. If he is unable to return until mid-January, as some reports suggest, then trying to bring him in during this season only eats up a roster spot for someone that won’t be a factor.

This news impacts the Vikings for one clear reason. There’s a non-zero chance that the Vikings run into Dallas again at some point in the playoffs. In particular, there could be a rematch at U.S. Bank Stadium in the NFC Championship Game. In Week 11, the Cowboys came into the Bank and ran the Vikings out of the building, 40-3.

With OBJ alongside CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, that would be a ridiculously talented wide receiver group. The deal may still happen at some point, but it appears much less likely now than it did even 48 hours ago.
