The North County Transit District implemented an increase in the overall pay and benefits package offered to bus operators.

The added compensation, which was added in coordination with MV Transportation, NCTD’s bus operations contractor, and ratified by Teamsters Local 542, is intended to attract new bus operators and improve the retention of current operators.

“NCTD’s pay and benefits package for bus operators is now one of the most competitive for new commercial drivers in the region, which will help attract new bus operators to fill current vacancies and retain existing employees,” said NCTD Executive Director, Matthew O. Tucker. “In addition to more pay, we are greatly enhancing the overall benefits package and continuing to offer sign-on bonuses for new drivers.”

The new pay and benefits package includes an increase in the starting rate for new hire operators from $18.84 to $22 with no experience required. Paid commercial driver’s license (CDL) training is included. The pay range escalates up to $26.00 after six years of experience. Benefits include healthcare coverage of 80 percent or more of the premium cost. A sign-on bonus of $2,000 is offered for applicants without a CDL and $5,000 with existing CDL and experience.

NCTD and MV currently have more than 50 open bus operator positions. Those interested can apply at careers.mvtransit.com or in-person at 305 Via Del Norte, Oceanside
