Netflix’s Chief Accounting Officer Ken Barker Resigns After Three Months, States Personal Reasons

Three months after joining Netflix as the company’s main accounting officer, Ken Barker has quit. The business said in an SEC filing that Barker submitted his resignation on Thursday. It was referred to as a “personal decision” in the filing, which also made clear that it wasn’t the consequence of any disagreement with the business over its operations, rules, or procedures.

During the hiring process for Barker’s long-term replacement, Netflix CFO Spencer Neumann will assume the position of the principal accounting officer, the company stated. After working for Electronic Arts for 19 years, Barker joined Netflix last June. Prior to EA, Barker held positions at Deloitte & Touche and Sun Microsystems. According to the June filing, his base pay at Netflix was $2.4 million, plus he received a $600,000 yearly stock option allowance.

Next month, Netflix will release its most recent quarterly profits report. After startling subscriber losses, the company’s stock dropped more than 70%, but it has since stabilized at around $230 per share, which is still less than half of where it was at the beginning of 2022. The third quarter of programming saw more encouraging results, and the fourth quarter will bring a flurry of high-profile films, including the Knives Out sequel and a new season of The Crown.
