Man with Handgun Shot and Killed by Police After Traffic Stop Near Chicano Park

A police pursuit late Friday night ended in gunfire and the death of an armed man in his 30s near Chicano Park.

At approximately 11:30 p.m., San Diego Police attempted to stop a man in a Dodge Ram pickup in the 1800 block of Logan Avenue, but the driver sped away.

He stopped two blocks away and got out of the pickup and police opened fire.

San Diego Sheriff’s Lt. Chris Steffen told reporters at the scene that as the man fell to the ground, a semi-automatic handgun dropped from his hand.

The man was take to a hospital and pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.
