Man Who Stepped into Street Struck, Severely Injured by SUV Near SDSU

A 40-year-old pedestrian was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries Friday after he was struck by an SUV in the College East are.

The man was struck by a 27-year-old woman in a Chevrolet Tahoe in the 6600 block on Alvarado Road, near San Diego State University, at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

He was transported to a hospital in severe condition.

Officer David O’Brien said the accident did not occur in a crosswalk and that the pedestrian stepped in front of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the police. SDPD reported it was unknown if alcohol was a factor and the investigation is ongoing.
