A 28-year-old man was seriously injured near Petco Park Tuesday evening while riding a motorcycle just purchased for his birthday.

The man wasn’t wearing helmet as he rode a 2015 Suzuki 750 at high speed in a parking lot at 50 11th Avenue when he lost control and crashed into a metal fence around 8:20 p.m., according to the San Diego Police Department.

Police said the man slid under the fence and into the back tire of a nearby tractor trailer.

He was taken to a hospital where he is expected to have surgery for a serious injury to his right leg.

Officers said alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash.
