Ikea’s UK boss Peter Jelkeby has joined the judging panel of the Retail Gazette Awards.

Jelkeby, who is also chief sustainability officer of Ikea’s global business, and Kingfisher chief digital and technology officer JJ Van Oosten are the latest big names to come on board as judges of the newly-launched Retail Gazette Awards, named The Game Changers.

The Game Changers are designed to celebrate the innovators in retailers that are taking risks and create new business models, growth opportunities, and finding ways to improve the shopping experience.

As such, Retail Gazette has gathered a judging panel full of industry innovators that are best-equipped to choose the winning entries.

Along with Jelkeby and Van Oosten, the judging panel includes:

  • Laura Harricks, chief customer officer, Ocado Retail
  • Murray Lambell, vice president and general manager, eBay UK
  • David Robinson, chief operating officer, Pets at Home
  • Cheryl Calverley, chief executive, Eve Sleep
  • Geert Peeters, chief operating officer, Dr Martens

The Game Changers consists of eight awards, including Best Retailer, Fast Growth Retailer, Ecommerce Game Changer, Supply Chain Game Changer, and Sustainability Game Changer. Entries close a month today on 22 July.

Retail Gazette Awards - The Game Changers

The Game Changers are both free to enter and all shortlisted companies will receive complimentary tickets for their team to attend the awards ceremony.

The winners will be unveiled at an industry party at Bloomsbury Lanes in London, which is designed to be an antidote to the stuffy, overly formal business awards that are commonplace across many industries.

The bash will shun sit-down meals and penguin suits as guests are encouraged to grab a beer, have fun, and meet the people who are changing the face of retail over a few beers.

Retail Gazette editor Gemma Goldfingle said: “I’m delighted to welcome Peter and JJ to our fantastic judging panel, made up of the most innovative companies in retail.

“These awards are for retail’s game changers, judged by retail’s game changers. This illustrious panel will make sure we’re recognising the businesses and people that are truly transforming the industry.”

Entries are open now. If your business is doing remarkable things, make sure you’re in the running to be named one of Retail Gazette’s Game Changers and submit your entry at awards.retailgazette.co.uk.
