FCC Proposes Rules to Improve Reliability of 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

[ad_1]

The FCC has proposed rules to improve the reliability of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the event of any service outages.  The proposed rules would require 988 service providers to report outages that may affect 988 service, allowing for quicker restoration and the opportunity for officials to alert the public of alternate ways to contact 988.

The FCC is seeking comment on these proposed rules, including the definition of an outage to be at least 30 minutes in duration, whether cable, satellite, wireless, wireline, and interconnected VoIP providers should be subject to reporting outages, and logistics of implementation such as timelines for compliance.
