FCC Announces Plans to Establish Space Bureau and Office of International Affairs

[ad_1]

The FCC has announced that it will reorganize the FCC’s International Bureau, splitting the Bureau into a new Space Bureau and a standalone Office of International Affairs, in order to better accommodate the growing satellite industry and evolving global communications policy.  The FCC licenses radio frequency uses for satellites and assists space systems in plans to mitigate orbital debris, and the FCC hopes that a new Space Bureau will bolster its role in an emerging space economy.

As for the Office of International Affairs, this move is reflective of the structure of the Office of Engineering and Technology and the Office of General Counsel that are able to provide expertise across all Bureaus.  The FCC hopes this will allow experts to focus on specific matters of international communications and regulation.
