An elderly driver suffered life-threatening injuries Sunday when he lost control of his car and hit a cinderblock wall in Alta Vista, San Diego police said.

The man, 80, driving a 2011 Toyota Yaris, backed out of his driveway and struck a neighbor’s wall in the 600 block of Leghorn Avenue. He proceeded northbound and allegedly failed to stop at the stop sign at Leghorn and Skyline Drive, hitting a westbound vehicle.

He continued northbound at about 12:25 p.m. and collided with an embankment and cinderblock wall as the road curved at 200 Leghorn.

He sustained multiple internal injuries, a fractured left femur dislocated left elbow, lacerations to his head and the possible additional break of a prior pelvic fracture.

The Traffic Investigation Unit responded to the scene and are investigating.

There were no injuries in the wreck at Leghorn and Skyline.
