Chula Vista Community Foundation Awards $60,000 in Grants to Benefit Youth

The Chula Vista Community Foundation Thursday granted $60,000 to three local nonprofits that promote the health and wellbeing of youth.

“We want to work with local organizations closest to our youth to ensure that as a community we’re uplifting our young people academically, socially and emotionally,” said Carmen Richardson, the foundation board’s chair, who also noted the group’s eagerness to see “our youth overcome some of the challenges (of) the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The South Bay foundation, a regional affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, has granted more than $600,000 since 2011 to nearly 40 nonprofit programs in Chula Vista.

The San Diego Foundation’s Regional Affiliate program was established to create an area-wide network.

In addition to Chula Vista, affiliates are located in Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo and 4S Ranch-Del Sur. The network has established endowments of more than $5 million overall and has granted more than $6 million in total to organizations throughout the region.
