A boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle in Vista, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.

The 11-year-old child was trying to cross the street at the intersection of North Santa Fe Avenue and Vista Village Drive just before 6 p.m. Friday, Sgt. E. Cottrell said.

He was taken by air ambulance to Rady’s Children’s Hospital with serious injuries, the sergeant said.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, Cottrell said. The motorist was not suspected of driving while impaired.

The Vista traffic division was handling the investigation.
