To mark the start of this ongoing commitment the boohoo group has collaborated with EVERFI, a leading provider of social impact education, to deliver the introduction of a mobile-first education resource to help young people build their understanding of data skills.

The initial strategic partnership will be rolled out in 40 secondary schools in Manchester, London, Burnley, Wellingborough, and Daventry, with a particular focus on reaching young people from underrepresented communities.

The Data Science Foundations course gives 14-16-year-olds knowledge about the fundamentals of data science, its currency in the job market, and its application to everyday life.

It is designed to simplify the subject, providing a straightforward understanding of statistics and computer science, and the vast range of job opportunities within the ecommerce sector. From logistics, IT, buying, merchandising, marketing, and social media to name just a few.

Data Science Foundations is made available, at no cost, through the group’s relationship with Impact-as-a-ServiceTM education innovator, EVERFI, Inc.

Data Science Foundations provides a “bootcamp” designed to empower young people with the foundational knowledge needed to understand its relevance in the job market and applicability to everyday life.

Created in partnership with teachers and subject matter experts, the course has been designed to help students build critical thinking skills to understand and use the “big data” that shapes modern life.

Boohoo group CEO John Lyttle said: “‘All of the evidence shows that children have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic and we want to play our part in bridging that gap by helping young people to fulfil their potential.

“That’s why we are delighted to announce our first-ever education strategic partnership with EVERFI which will enable us to offer support to some of the schools in and around the areas where we have a physical presence. Supporting an introduction to data science is just one small part of encouraging the next generation in their understanding of an ever-evolving digital jobs market.”
