Former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Bashaud Breeland remains a free agent with the NFL regular season about three weeks away. And he’s chomping at the bit to join another team, evidenced by a tweet that implies he’s waiting on a general manager to make the call.
Breeland produced a topsy-turvy and brief career with the Vikings that spanned five months. In June of 2021, former general manager Rick Spielman signed Breeland, who later started 13 games in Minnesota. But in December, Breeland was released after an alleged fracas at practice. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero tweeted that Breeland reportedly “got into a verbal altercation today at practice with coaches, took off his cleats and got into it with multiple teammates who were trying to calm the situation.”

The aforementioned topsy-turvyness wasn’t limited to practice either. Fellow Vikings CB Cameron Dantzler was curiously benched for Breeland — over and over — even though Breeland struggled. His 47.2 grade from Pro Football Focus ranked sixth-worst in the NFL among all qualifying cornerbacks in 2021. Still, the former Vikings coaching staff was adamant Breeland start over Dantzler. And Dantzler was the player who ended the 2021 season with an admirable 73.8 PFF score.
Breeland latched onto the Arizona Cardinals after leaving the Vikings but didn’t play any games. He was pegged as a playoff addition to Arizona’s roster, although he never saw the field. And when 2022 free agency rolled around, Breeland was not retained by the Cardinals.

Before leaving the Vikings, Breeland also authored a bizarre and explicit tweet after the Vikings defeated the Detroit Lions in Week 5.

Breeland deleted the post soon after.
Drafted in the 4th Round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, he’s also played for the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. Breeland’s best individual campaign was in 2015 with the Commanders when he fired up a 74.1 PFF grade. Too, Breeland won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019 when Patrick Mahomes and Co. downed the San Francisco 49ers.
It is unclear if a team will sign Breeland, 30, in 2022. The Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, New York Giants, and Cardinals could stand to add some CB depth.
