  • 13 March – Labour Day
  • TBA – AFL Grand Final (usually in October)
  • 7 November – Melbourne Cup

Public holidays – Queensland

  • 1 May – Labour Day
  • 16 August – Ekka Wednesday
  • 2 October – Queen’s/King’s birthday

Public holidays – Western Australia

  • 6 March – Labour Day
  • 5 June – Western Australia Day
  • 25 September – Queen’s/King’s birthday

Public holidays – South Australia

  • 13 March – Adelaide Cup Day
  • Fun fact: 26 December is technically Proclamation Day rather than Boxing Day in South Australia

Public holidays – ACT

  • 13 March – Canberra Day
  • 29 May – Reconciliation Day

Public holidays – Tasmania

  • 13 March – Eight Hours Day

Certain regions of Tasmania get public holidays for Show Days, including King Island Show on 7 March, Royal Launceston Show on 12 October, and Devonport Show on 1 December. (Please give us a virtual pat on the back for not taking this prime opportunity to make a cheeky joke about the many weird things that only happen in Tasmania. We love you Tassie).

  • 1 May – May Day
  • 7 August – Picnic Day

The Northern Territory also gives certain regions additional public holidays for their local Show Day. In 2023 these dates are: Alice Springs on 7 July, Tennant Creek on 14 July, Katherine on 21 July, Darwin on 28 July, Borroloola on 18 August.
